DARLINGTON — Mrs. Minnie S. Maxwell, 95, died Thursday morning, July 23, at her home. Born June 24, 1869, the daughter of Christian and Louisa Unger Steffler, at Mockmuhl, Germany, she came to Montgomery County at the age of 11. She was married to Alexander Maxwell in March of 1888. After their marriage, they resided on a farm north of Bowers Station. She had been a resident of Darlington, where she was a member of the Missisinewa White Church of the Brethren, for the past 40 years. Mrs. Maxwell had a lifelong hobby of making quilts and giving them to her friends and relatives. She continued active in this endeavor until recent months. Surviving are seven sons, Walter of Crawfordsville, Fred of Lebanon, Lawrence of Anderson, and Ales, Byrl, Ralph and Jack, all of Darlington; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Horine of Anderson and Mrs. Amy Hulvey of Darlington; 37 grandchildren; and 109 great-grandchildren, and a number of great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, two brothers and a sister. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at Bright's Funeral Home at Darlington. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, there. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery at Darlington. - kbz

Darlington - Mrs. Minnie Maxwell who has 146 descendants, will celebrate her 90th birthday Wednesday. A native of Germany, she lived in the Bowers Community before moving to Darlington 35 years ago. She came to the US when she was 11 years old. Mrs. Maxwell is the mother of 10 living sons and daughters: Walter of Crawfordsville; Fred of near Lebanon; Mrs. Amy Hulvey, Cele, Ralph, Byrl and Elmer of Darlington, Mrs. Caroline Morine and Lawrence of Anderson and Clarence of Champaign, Ill. She makes her home with her son, ELmer. She is the widow of Alexander Maxwell who died in 1935. - kbz
